City kicks off $3.6 million arterial street maintenance project

Construction is slated to begin on a number of arterials as a part of the City’s ongoing street maintenance program.

Portions of University Boulevard, Old Settlers Boulevard, Sunrise Road and Red Bud Lane will undergo improvements starting on April 13. These projects, totaling $3.6 million, were approved by the City Council at their Feb. 13 meeting.

Improvements will include repairs to curbs, curb ramps, gutters, sidewalks, driveways and pavement as well as pavement milling and overlay. Crews anticipate following the schedule included below, however, it is subject to change in case of inclement weather or any unforeseen circumstances.

  • University Boulevard
    • April 13-17 (day work)
    • April 19-May 13 (night work)
  • Old Settlers Boulevard
    • April 20-24 (day work)
    • May 14-27 (night work)
  • Sunrise Road
    • April 27-May 15 (day work)
    • May 28-June 11 (night work)
  • Redbud Lane
    • June 14-July 5 (night work)

The work will require partial road closures and flagging operations. Drivers may experience minor delays and slowed or stopped traffic.

The City manages more than 1,150 lane miles of roadways within its jurisdiction. The Transportation Department’s street maintenance program aims to preserve and improve the conditions of existing roadways by monitoring the state of its roadways and systematically repairing or repaving the top layers of City streets as needed.
