TxDOT, partners celebrate ribbon cutting for FM 1460 widening project

Travelers in Williamson County now have another north/south route to get to their destinations. Today, the Texas Department of Transportation and its partners cut the ribbon on the FM 1460 widening project. U.S. Representative John R. Carter’s staff joined officials from the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), Williamson County and the cities of Georgetown and Round Rock to celebrate the completion of construction on FM 1460, from Quail Valley Drive to University Boulevard.

“The population of Williamson County is expected to increase by 80 percent between 2017 and 2040,” said TxDOT Austin District Engineer Terry McCoy. “This expansion project helps us deal with the traffic that comes along with that population growth.”

The $21 million project converted the two-lane roadway into a three-and-a-half mile stretch of roadway with two travel lanes in each direction and a center-turn lane or grassy median where appropriate.

TxDOT received financial commitments from CAMPO, Williamson County and the cities of Georgetown and Round Rock. Each played a pivotal role in moving the project forward.
