Round Rock Public Library celebrates 61 years of service on June 22

On June 22, 1962, RRPL opened in a room measuring 12 feet by 18 feet as a community service project of the Round Rock Home Demonstration Club. There was no air conditioning, bathroom, or telephone. The library was open from 2-5 p.m. and library cards were 10 cents each.

The library quickly outgrew this space and moved to its previous location at 216 East Main Street in 1965, sharing the space with various City Hall offices. Multiple renovations occurred in the ensuing decades, including City Hall moving into its own new space in 1987. In 2013, City of Round Rock residents voted and passed the 2013 bond, approving the construction of a new library.

On Saturday, January 28, 2023, RRPL opened its new state-of-the-art facility featuring areas for quiet work/study on the third floor, classrooms on the first floor, outdoor spaces on each level, study rooms on the second and third floors, dedicated children’s story time rooms, early learning areas, space for activities and crafts, and space for collaboration and flexible spaces for programs and collections.
