Police investigate Aug. 4 Officer-involved shooting

At approximately 5:00 a.m., Officers responded to witness accounts of a black male breaking into multiple vehicles in the 1000-block of Christopher Avenue. Officers encountered the suspect while he was exiting a vehicle. While attempting to detain him, the suspect pulled a handgun. One Officer shot at the suspect and the suspect fled the scene on foot. Officers established a perimeter to search for the suspect. During the investigation, the suspect was located at a Georgetown hospital with a gunshot wound. The suspect is in custody at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect’s handgun was located on scene. There is no risk to the public at this time.

The Round Rock Police Department received assistance from the Cedar Park Police Department, Round Rock ISD Police Department, Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, and Travis County EMS Star Flight. RRPD is investigating the Officer-involved shooting in collaboration with the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office, the Texas Rangers, and the FBI. The Officer that discharged his weapon has been placed on administrative leave, per RRPD policy.
