Library receives award for excellence in programming, services

The Round Rock Public Library recently received the 2021 Texas Achievement of Library Excellence Award from the Texas Municipal Library Director’s Association, an affiliate of the Texas Municipal League. This is the fourth year in a row that the Library has achieved this honor.

(From left to right) Librarian Teri Jackson and Assistant Director Geeta Halley were instrumental in submitting the application for the award.

Only 59 libraries out of 569 public libraries in Texas, less than 10 percent, achieved this recognition. Libraries awarded this honor must meet a high level of excellence in programming and service, contributing to the continued education and personal enrichment of the community.

To successfully receive the Achievement of Library Excellence Award, the library must exhibit excellence by providing services to underserved and special populations, enhancing services, marketing in innovative ways, promoting cultural, topical, and educational programming, providing literacy support, providing summer reading clubs, pursuing collaborative efforts, supporting workforce development, providing for digital inclusion, and comprehensively training staff.

Some of the programs and services that the library provides include Family Place programming and story times to promote early literacy; computer training and Resume Review to assist job-seekers; improvements to the library catalog and material placement to make it easier for customers to discover and access library materials; and the Summer Reading Challenge to promote reading for customers of all ages.
