HPC Adopts Land Acknowledgment

The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) adopted a Land Acknowledgment at their meeting on October 17, 2023. The commission developed this statement and plans to recite it at HPC meetings and publish the statement on the City of Round Rock Historic Preservation website. The adoption of a Land Acknowledgement aligns with the HPC’s role to preserve, protect, and promote the City of Round Rock’s historical resources and serves as an opportunity to reflect on and honor the contributions of indigenous people to Round Rock. The Land Acknowledgment states:

We humbly acknowledge we are learning, speaking, and gathering on land forcibly taken from the Tonkawa, Comanche, Lipan Apache, and Tawakoni tribes, who are some of the Indigenous peoples removed from this land. In recognizing their history, culture, and land stewardship, we commit to fostering understanding, respect, and inclusivity for Indigenous communities in Round Rock. May we mindfully cultivate the values of equity and unity on this land.
