Glaiser officially becomes Fire Department’s new Chief
Assistant Fire Chief Shane Glaiser, who has served in an interim capacity since Oct. 1, 2021, has been named Chief of the Round Rock Fire Department.
The department’s top position became available upon Fire Chief Robert Isbell’s departure in fall 2021.
“Shane has proven himself over the years to be a knowledgeable, dedicated public servant,” Round Rock City Manager Laurie Hadley said. “He has earned this opportunity, and he is the right person to lead our Fire Department and implement innovative projects to meet the needs of our growing city.”
This year, Round Rock most notably plans to expand its Community Risk Reduction program to include a new, 13-person outreach team that will improve the City’s public safety response to behavioral healthcare, which includes mental illness and substance abuse. The program is expected to begin in April.
Glaiser began his career in Round Rock in June 1995 and has steadily promoted through the ranks over the last 26 years. He was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief in 2017, during which time he managed the Department’s operations, strengthened partnership programs with surrounding agencies and has been involved in County-wide policy development for operations and safety. He oversaw the construction of several new stations and served as the project lead for the department for the construction of the Public Safety Training Center that opened in 2018.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Sam Houston State University.
“I’m grateful for the chance to lead our department with the same commitment to training, innovation and service that have allowed me to develop and grow into who I am today,” Glaiser said. “I appreciate the continued support of our citizens, the employees of the Round Rock Fire Department and City of Round Rock, City leadership and our regional partners. By working together, we will grow and evolve to continue providing the exceptional public safety services that make Round Rock a great place to call home.”
