Disaster relief fund to benefit those impacted by Round Rock tornado

Published on March 25, 2022 under RRnews

Round Rock Cares has been activated in an effort to raise funds for those impacted by the Monday, March 21 tornado in Round Rock.

Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan and Greater Round Rock Community Foundation Chair Nyle Maxwell announced the initiative Friday, March 25, to assist Round Rock citizens directly affected by the severe weather event. Over $260,000 has already been committed by the Nelson Family Life Foundation, Dell Technologies, the Greater Round Rock Community Foundation, the City of Round Rock, the Round Rock Chamber, Emerson, the Jay Latham family, the Nyle Maxwell family and the Jim Boles family.

“Many of our families and businesses face a long and difficult road ahead,” Mayor Morgan said. “In the days after the tornado, I’ve seen how our community has come together and helped each other, and the top concern of affected residents I’ve spoken with is how they will be impacted financially. This fund is intended to help people impacted by the storm get back on their feet faster, and give them some peace of mind so they can start rebuilding their lives.”

Round Rock Cares is a charitable fund, managed by the Greater Round Rock Community Foundation. Your donation will go directly to those needing help and is 100% tax deductible. Those wishing to contribute to the fund can do so at rrcommunityfoundation.org.

“The sense of community is not just about belonging, but about coming together to make something happen,” Maxwell said. “Our community’s leaders are stepping up with very generous donations, but it’s not enough. We saw our residents step up and support their neighbors during the pandemic, and now we are asking our community to help us provide assistance to those in need.”

An application for tornado survivors to apply for financial assistance will be available in the coming days. Fund founders intend resources to be distributed to tornado survivors as quickly as applications can be received and reviewed.
