Council approves Heritage Trail West construction

A new addition to Round Rock’s growing trail system will soon be under construction.

On June 25, Round Rock City Council approved a $7.3 million contract with Ritter, Botkin Prime Construction Company, Inc. to construct the Heritage Trail West project.

The project includes a 10-foot-wide trail spanning from Chisholm Trail Road to Mays Street and includes improvements at Bathing Beach Park, Chisholm Trail Crossing Park and Memorial Park. The approximately 1-mile trail will include elements showcasing Round Rock’s history, open spaces for recreational opportunities and amenities such as a pedestrian bridge and an overlook with views of Brushy Creek.

Round Rock residents have made it clear in recent surveys that trails are an integral part of the City’s infrastructure. The Heritage Trail West project was made possible through bond funding approved by Round Rock voters in 2013.

Construction will take approximately 18 months and is expected to be completed in 2022.

Several projects along Brushy Creek Trail will ultimately connect existing trails in Round Rock and Williamson County to create a regional system stretching from U.S. 183 to Texas 130. Williamson County’s Brushy Creek Regional Trail Phase V project is currently under construction and will stretch from Creek Side Plaza on FM 620 to Sam Bass Road. The County’s project is expected to be completed this summer.

The City of Round Rock most recently completed the Brushy Creek Trail Extension from A.W. Grimes to Georgetown Street, including a 1.13 mile, 10-foot-wide concrete trail, pedestrian underpass, pedestrian bridge, views of Brushy Creek, entry monuments, seating opportunities and dog stations.
