City offices, facilities closed Friday due to weather

Published on February 11, 2021 under RRnews

Due to forecasted inclement weather, City of Round Rock offices will be closed Friday, Feb. 12.

As of Thursday night, Round Rock Refuse expects garbage and recycling pickup will occur on a slightly delayed schedule on Friday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning for portions of the Hill Country in south Central Texas. The combination of an upper level disturbance and cold temperatures will allow for freezing rain through most of Thursday evening. While some residents will see a very cold rain, some areas that drop to freezing in the Hill Country will start to see an accumulation of freezing rain on roadways and exposed surfaces. Travel is discouraged for those in the Winter Storm Warning area. If travel is necessary, use caution and be aware of possible ice and slick spots on area roads.

City crews have been pretreating bridges and certain roadways for ice as conditions allow.

The City strongly recommends residents and businesses turn off their irrigation/sprinkler systems to avoid damage and freezing due to the cold temperatures that are being forecast. Runoff from sprinklers causes hazardous conditions on roadways.

Now is a good time to make sure you are prepared for the hazards a winter storm can bring. FEMA has a great deal of information here. Please make sure you take care of people, pets, pipes and plants.

The City also recommends going to to sign-up for emergency alerts if you have not already done so.
