City continues to take measures against Coronavirus

Published on March 13, 2020 under RRnews

The City of Round Rock is taking precautionary measures to keep residents and City staff as safe as possible as the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, spreading to Central Texas.

“I want our citizens to know we take this public health threat seriously and are taking responsible measures to keep folks safe,” Mayor Craig Morgan said. “This is an emerging, rapidly evolving situation and we will remain vigilant as we deal with this challenging issue. It’s important that we work together as a community to prevent the spread of this virus.”

The City of Round Rock has taken the following precautions to date:

  • Increased the frequency of cleaning City facilities, including deeper cleanings at least once a week and more frequent cleanings of high-traffic facilities like the Library and Baca Center. Facility maintenance crews on Thursday, March 12, started using an e-mist disinfectant approved by the CDC to prevent the virus.
  • Placed hand sanitizer and/or Clorox wipes in bathrooms and common areas in all City facilities.
  • Shared information from Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and CDC on what the public and our employees can do to protect themselves and others.
  • The City is encouraging its utility customers to pay their bills online, over the phone or in one of our 24-hour deposit boxes.

City officials are taking the following actions to maintain communication with the public and with local, state and federal authorities:

  • The City of Round Rock’s Emergency Management team is monitoring information from DSHS and CDC, and is coordinating with the Williamson County Cities and Health District at least twice per day and state health officials once a day. The Health District is the lead local agency for public health issues.
  • Updating public information messaging using guidance from local, state and national health authorities.
  • Communicating with officials from neighboring cities and counties, local hospitals and clinics, and Round Rock ISD.
  • The City has created a Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information page on its website, and will be updating it as needed with information from the CDC and other public health experts.

Cancellations

Based on guidance provided by the Health District, the City has cancelled its Music on Main concert series, including the Spring Break Bash scheduled for March 16-20. Some Library and Parks and Recreation activities have also been suspended or cancelled. A complete list of canceled events can be found at roundrocktexas.gov/coronavirus.
