Volunteers set to “Love the Rock” in Round Rock this Saturday

More than 1,000 volunteers will join forces with the City of Round Rock to “Love the Rock” this Saturday.

Round Rock’s annual Love the Rock volunteer event will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Stoney Point High School, 1801 Tiger Trail, with an official kickoff featuring Mayor Craig Morgan and participating organizations at 8:40 a.m. Volunteers from 30 different churches are expected to come together for a single day of volunteer service designed to help their fellow neighbors within the City of Round Rock.

Volunteers will perform voluntary fire safety inspections and smoke detector installation, neighborhood cleanup assistance and curb address painting in the Mesa Ridge and Mesa Village neighborhoods. Many of those who receive assistance through neighborhood cleanups include the elderly, disabled, people recovering from surgery or illness and single parents. Using tools from the City’s Tool Lending Center, volunteers will mow and weed lawns, trim trees and bushes, haul heavy items and more.

“Love the Rock does more than just beautify a neighborhood; it truly changes residents’ quality of life,” said Joe Brehm, City of Round Rock Community Development Administrator.

In the program’s first year in 2016, 555 tons of garbage along with 93 tons of brush were removed from Round Rock homes.
