Round Rock selected to host National Flag Football Championship for three straight years
The National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) will hold the national championship tournaments at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
“We are honored to host the NIRSA National Flag Football Championships in the Sports Capital of Texas. This is a fantastic tournament and organization that I’ve been involved with for many years, from officiating as a student to volunteering as a young professional, so I am personally very proud and excited for this new role hosting the event,” Round Rock Sports Management and Tourism Director Chad McKenzie said. “We look forward to participants and spectators experiencing the state-of-the-art Round Rock Multipurpose Complex, our incredible staff, and the many outstanding amenities Round Rock has to offer.”
The NIRSA National Flag Football Championship tournament was held in Texas in 2006-2007 and 2011-2012, but never before in Round Rock.
“We are thrilled for the Flag Football National Championships to return to Texas and to a premier destination like Round Rock. Not only are the sports facilities top notch, but we are also incredibly confident knowing that a NIRSA pro like Chad McKenzie and his team are our partners for the event,” said NIRSA National Sport Programs Director Valerie McCutchan.
The 2017 NIRSA National Flag Football Championships were held in Florida and included 68 teams with 761 participants. Event organizers said they hope to attract more Texas and West Coast teams to the national championship event in 2020 when it is held in Round Rock, a more central location in the U.S.
