The first bout of STAAR test results have been taken, graded, processed and released in the 2016-17 year—and while some results show increases, others show a dip in proficiency. Eighty-one percent of fifth graders and 74 percent of eighth graders passed the mathematics exam on first attempt, which reveals an increase in scores for both grades.
