Despite rain, Austin OKs new watering limits

Published on May 18, 2016 under CommunityImpact

In March, when Lake Travis reached 100 percent capacity for water-supply purposes, Austin Water was already working on a set of proposed changes to its water-conservation efforts. Austin Water, which provides water services to city residents, is also responsible for the city’s water-conservation and drought-contingency plans. On May 5, Austin City Council approved new water restrictions as recommended by Austin Water. These changes permanently limit residential outdoor irrigation to one day per week but allow home car washes using a hose with a manual shut-off nozzle.
