Planning and Development Services hires Principal Planner

Published on November 21, 2016 under RRnews

In keeping with the City’s Making it Happen Development Philosophy, Planning and Development Services is continuously striving to improve. This goal has led to the hire of Lee Heckman as a Principal Planner to the City’s Development Services Office (DSO).

The purpose of this position is to assist applicants and city staff with planning-related knowledge as it relates to current land development.  He will be charged with coordinating planning activities and project review among city departments and the community, as well as overseeing specific city planning programs to ensure compliance with City, State and federal regulations and plans.  It is expected he will provide an experienced bridge between the DSO and other planning efforts.

Lee is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a Master of Science in Community and Regional Planning.  He first moved to Texas in 1995 to attend graduate school at UT.  Following a number of years as a student at the University of Washington in Seattle, Lee began his planning career at Travis County.  He’s also had the opportunity to work with the City of Austin and most recently as Planning Manager for the City of Cedar Park.  A majority of his career has been with Round Rock, however, having served as a Principal Planner in the planning division from 2006 to 2012.

The next time you attend a pre-development meeting, please say hello to Lee and welcome him back to the City of Round Rock.
