The City won seven awards Sept. 8 at the City-County Communications and Marketing Association (3CMA) annual conference in San Antonio.

Round Rock won two first places, three second places and a third-place in the Savvy Awards competition, which honors excellence in local government communications.

One project earned the two first-place “Savvy” honors. The Lost Teddy Alert, which helped reunite a little girl with her teddy bear and warmed hearts while promoting downtown businesses and the Music on Main series. It won for Best Use of Facebook in the population 65,000 and up category, as well as Most Innovative (all populations).

Other winning entries were:

  • Best Campaign Use of Social Media Tools – The Police Department’s #OpenCarryAware campaigned informed residents about the changes in state law allowing open carry of firearms placed second in the population 100,000 and up category.
  • TV and Video Public Service Announcement – The Bam, Pow, READ! video, which channeled everyone’s inner super hero to promote the Library Summer Reading Program, placed second in the population 61,000-110,000 category.
  • Special Events/Recurring – Downtown’s popular Music on Main spring concert series won second place in the population 0-125,000 category.
  • TV and Video Regularly Scheduled Programming – The City’s brief but regular reminder of our many transportation improvement projects, Street Cred, notched third-place in the population 101,000 and up category.

“We’re thrilled and humbled to have our work recognized by our peers nationwide,” said Will Hampton, Communications and Marketing Director. “It’s an honor to win just one Savvy award. To take home seven is a testament to the creativity and hard work of our professional communications staff.”
