City submits transportation grant requests to CAMPO

The City has submitted four grant applications to the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) 2019-2022 program call for transportation project funding. The City Council formalized the road project funding requests by unanimously approving a resolution on Thursday, Jan. 25, at its regularly scheduled meeting. A transit funding request will be formalized at the Feb. 8 City Council meeting.

The funding is available through the Federal Surface Transportation Block Grant program and project requests are based on an 80 percent federal contribution and 20 percent City contribution. The program will provide $250 million to projects in Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson counties.

Applications were submitted for the following projects and corresponding funding requests:

•      Kenney Fort Boulevard from Forest Creek Drive to SH45 — $17.5 million
  
•      University Boulevard from A.W. Grimes to CR 110 — $9 million
  
•      Gattis School Road from Red Bud Lane to Via Sonoma Trail — $13 million
  
•      Solar lighting at transit bus stops — $80,000

Projects are evaluated and selected by the CAMPO Technical Advisory Committee based on several key factors which include regional perspective, transparency, objectivity, data-support and accountability. CAMPO will select the awarded projects in late spring.
