City hires architect to design new library

Published on January 25, 2018 under RRnews

The City Council voted unanimously Thursday, Jan. 25, to approve an architectural services agreement with PGAL, Inc. for the new public library project. The $2.7 million dollar contract includes architectural and engineering services for the estimated 60,000-square-foot library and adjoining 300-space parking garage.

The contract includes a comprehensive needs assessment, program development, design and construction administration. The design phase is anticipated to last 18 months and will include opportunities for the public to weigh in on library needs and preferences. The new library will be located at 500 N. Mays St., adjacent to C.D. Fulkes Middle School, and is anticipated to open in early 2022. Funding for the new library was approved by voters in a November 2013 bond election.

PGAL has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. Local projects include the Seguin Public Library, City of Allen Public Library and Auditorium and the Lake Travis Community Library. Examples of their work may be found below.
