Amazon to buy Austin-based Whole Foods Market
Update 8:58 a.m.: Whole Foods Market announced today that Amazon will purchase the Austin-based natural and organic foods supermarket. Amazon, which, according to Forbes, is worth $427 billion, will buy the supermarket for $42 per share, or about $13.7 billion, according to a news release. “Millions of people love Whole Foods Market because they offer the best natural and organic foods, and they make it fun to eat healthy,” said Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bazos in the release. “Whole Foods Market has been satisfying, delighting and nourishing customers for nearly four decades—they’re doing an amazing job and we want that to continue.”
